4 Things that make Arizona Unique

Even before we ousted the British in 1776, Americans were full of a fierce, provincial spirit. Not much has changed to this day. Americans remain a proud people, who are unabashedly proud of where we live. This is true even on a state level. What are we most proud of here in Arizona? Why the things make us unique of course! Let’s learn about just four of those things today.

No Thanks Daylight Savings Time

During World War, I and World War II Arizona briefly observed daylight savings time. In 1967, the federal Uniform Time Act was passed which required all states to opt back into daylight savings time. After 1967, Arizona opted out. Since then, Arizona and Hawaii are the only states in the Union that do not participate in daylight savings time.

Capital Size

This may come as a bit of a surprise, but Phoenix is the largest state capital in the United States. Our massive city is, in fact, the 6^th largest city in the entire country! With a population over 1.5 million, it is a city still on the rise. Phoenix continues to grow at one of the fastest rates of a city in the nation.

Wave Pool Pioneers

In 2013, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers named Tempe Big Surf Waterpark’s wave pool a historical landmark. Why did they do this? Because it was the first wave, pool in the United States! Here in Arizona, we are wave pool pioneers. Given our scorching climate and lack of beaches, it makes sense.
